Many people I talk with agree that our tastes for what we want to eat change with the changes of season. Now that we are in full summer weather I know I don't want to cook the comfort foods I do in the winter or fall nor do I really want to eat those dishes.
So many foods can be grilled and fresh vegetables and fruits are in abundance. Balsamic and Extra Virgin Olive Oils are perfect to use.
I use a lot of just plain EVOO like Sevillano, Ascalano and Arbequina all year. A fast and tasty meal is just plain pasta with one of these olive oils, some chopped fresh tomatoes and grated cheese. I also make this dish frequently using our Basil or Garlic oils. This truly tastes like summer.
I love to make fresh veggie grinders with just Basil EVOO and one of our Wine Vinegars such as Cabernet Savignon.
Lime and Lemon EVOO are so perfect on any grilled fish, shrimp or chicken and out of this world on fish tacos.
No summer meal is complete for me without a cool dessert and Blood Orange EVOO is perfect to use. My standby dessert is Blood Orange on the ice cream or yogurt of your choice. It is wonderful on grilled fruit also.
Some of my favorite vinegars this summer are the berry flavors. I love using them with fresh and grilled fruits, in marinades for chicken and in desserts. Strawberry, Raspberry, Wild Blueberry, Blackberry, Green Apple and Mixed Berry all have a place in summer meals. They are also refreshing in sparkling water and so much better for you .
